Install and open UnboundVR
Use the same UnboundVR package on every PC. You do not need a separate HOME or CLOUD edition.
Pick your setup, follow the checks in order, and let UnboundVR tell you what needs attention. Advanced networking and SteamVR details stay out of the way unless something actually goes wrong.
Most people should start with Same PC.
Use the same UnboundVR package on every PC. You do not need a separate HOME or CLOUD edition.
Open UnboundVR on each machine and sign in to the same owner account. Each installation appears as its own revocable device.
Your account password is not used as the PC-to-PC movement secret.
Get the treadmill to a normal ready state in KAT's software first. UnboundVR listens for local KAT movement input and reports when fresh treadmill data is arriving.
Keep KAT software open and confirm the treadmill is connected there. If movement input still does not appear, use the connection diagnostics instead of guessing at locomotion settings.
See treadmill troubleshooting →Turn on your headset and controllers, then launch SteamVR. UnboundVR checks SteamVR separately from the treadmill so one broken layer does not look like another.
UnboundVR must verify that KAT's normal joystick locomotion is out of the way before playspace movement can turn on. If it cannot prove that, walking stays off.
Do not disable this check just to make a warning disappear.
Natural Motion learns your actual treadmill noise and gait instead of making you guess at deadzones and run thresholds.
Calibration recommends bounded values. It does not silently change unrelated settings.
Walk straight ahead, then look left and right without turning your body. Natural Motion should keep your travel direction stable while you look around.
If body tracking is unavailable, UnboundVR can estimate torso direction from controller positions and fall back to HMD direction when appropriate.
Start walking, come to a normal stop, and make sure virtual motion settles promptly. Stopping should feel planted—not like sliding on ice.
If stopping feels wrong, fix that before increasing stride or sprint speed.
READY should only appear when the treadmill, SteamVR, emergency stop, locomotion ownership, active game profile, and other required runtime checks all agree.
Once it is ready, UnboundVR should mostly disappear. Start your SteamVR game and walk.
Complete the checks above as you go.
These are the first fixes the installed app should offer. Safety problems never get “fixed” by weakening safety checks.
Check the forward axis and suggest Invert Y.
Mapping fixCheck axis orientation and suggest Swap Axes.
Mapping fixMeasure neutral noise and suggest a bounded deadzone adjustment.
CalibrationCheck body-direction confidence and Natural Motion's look-around behavior.
DirectionCheck KAT software, local input freshness, and the connection path. Do not guess at movement settings.
ConnectionInspect stale/dropout events. Keep stale-input protection enabled and fix the disappearing signal.
Safety diagnosticVerify KAT's native locomotion is actually suppressed before UnboundVR owns movement.
Unbound GuardReview braking, stop hysteresis, and calibration before changing top speed.
Natural MotionNormal setup should not require editing ports, OSC paths, driver state, or SteamVR transforms manually. Those belong in diagnostics when automatic setup cannot recover.
